Tax Season Guidelines


Once you have all your documents together Here are some other essential items to consider as you prepare your tax package for us:

  1. Email address & Cell phone number: Please provide the best email address and cell number for us to use for communication and open questions.

  2. Send your documents: In one of three ways (1) using the Client Portal (2) using U.S. Mail, Fed Ex, UPS, or another delivery service or (3) Drop off in our mailbox.

  3. In-person Appointments: Schedule an appointment for tax preparation (allow 1 to 1 ½ hours). Discuss if more time is needed when making the appointment.

  4. Return Receipt of Documents: If you are sending/ dropping off your tax documents, an acknowledgement will be sent via email or text message.

  5. Tax Return Processing: Returns will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Missing items or required documentation, including the engagement letter, may cause delays.

  6. E-file Authorizations: E-file authorization forms requiring signatures will be sent through Adobe e-sign for non-in person appointments. You will need to electronically sign them before your return can be electronically filed.

  7. Direct Deposit Information: Provide your bank account details for direct deposit of refunds.

  8. Amount Due Clarifications: If there's an amount due for taxes, we will contact you to discuss dates, amounts, and payment methods before e-filing.

  9. Payment Policy: Payment for our services is expected on the date of service. A secure link for payment via email can be arranged, but payment is required on the service date, irrespective of the chosen method.

  10. Engagement letter: Needs to be signed and submitted with your documents

Our suggestion? Use our super secure portal, a delivery service, or just drop off your papers in person. Please don’t email sensitive documents—it's not the safest route with all those hackers around.

Our Client Portal is user-friendly and has its own app! Click on the link and at the bottom of the sign in page you will see the options to choose your app store (Apple or Google Play) for a quick download to your mobile device. When you see the option to download the "Canopy Client Portal" app, you are in the right place.

No scanner? No problem! There are free scanner apps too that turn your pics into PDFs for easy submission. Your info's in good hands with us!
